The National Democratic Congress will like to join the United Nations and the world in celebrating International Youth Day. This year’s theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action” is pertinent for our current reality. Young people play a pivotal role in our communities and should be involved in the leadership process. In the last few years we’ve seen young people step up to the challenge around the world, individuals like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, U.S Representative, Malala Yousafzai, education activist and Greta Thunberg, climate change activist. These young women are just a few examples of the exemplary actions that young people are taking to help shape a better society for all of us.
Here at home, our young people are also speaking loud and clear about issues that they are concerned about. This includes youth unemployment, access to higher education, access to healthcare services and the ability to gain financial independence. We all have a role to play in fulfilling the dreams of our younger generation. The NDC is committed to working along with the young people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique to build a society that we can all enjoy. AN NDC led Government administration will ensure that the voices of the young people will be heard at every level of the decision making process.
As we commemorate this distinguished day, 31 years of International Youth Day, we encourage all of you to start a conversation with a peer about youth engagement. Let’s all play a part in fostering an inclusive environment that supports youth involvement in our various communities.
Happy International Youth Day!
