After much consideration, analytical review, and discussions with many people throughout our society, as well as listening to the voices of our people through social, electronic, and print media, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has concluded that the time has come for Grenada to adopt the recommendations of the CARICOM Regional Commission on Marijuana, as outlined in their 2018 report, ”Waiting To Exhale - Safeguarding Our Future Through Responsible Socio-Legal Policy On Marijuana.”
In our system of government, the Prime Minister may reshuffle the Cabinet at any time for improved efficiency and performance in the administration of public affairs. Cabinet reshuffles are not meant to be exercises in personal development for Ministers or to give them a ‘turn’ at a new experience. Equally, Cabinet reshuffles are not meant to be undertaken as part of partisan political maneuverings.
The Political Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mrs. Franka Alexis Johnson Bernadine, the Executive Committee and indeed the entire membership of the Party, join in extending congratulations to the incumbent, Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica on securing another victory at the election polls yesterday, Thursday 3rd September.
This is a period of unprecedented crisis, when our people need hope and inspiring, positive leadership as we face an uncertain future. The National Address delivered by Dr. the Rt Hon. Keith Mitchell on August 17th, 2020 failed to do that. It was of the same old mold - business as usual. The address was uninspiring, lacked vision, and was completely out of touch with our reality. Most unsettling, it failed to bring hope and positivity to the people. Instead, it carried a chastising in tone.
The National Democratic Congress will like to join the United Nations and the world in celebrating International Youth Day. This year’s theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action” is pertinent for our current reality. Young people play a pivotal role in our communities and should be involved in the leadership process. In the last few years we’ve seen young people step up to the challenge around the world, individuals like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, U.S Representative, Malala Yousafzai, education activist and Greta Thunberg, climate change activist. These young women are just a few examples of the exemplary actions that young people are taking to help shape a better society for all of us.
On behalf of the National Executive Council and membership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and indeed the people of Grenada, I extend heartiest congratulations and best wishes to you, Dr. Keith Christopher Rowley, on your re-election as Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
