My Vision for St. George North East

Dear Constituent,

In the 22 years since 1995, the NNP has occupied office for 17 and one- half years and the NDC for 4 and one- half. During that time, far too little has been done to seriously tackle and remedy the physical, economic and social development challenges facing the constituency. As a result, many of our residents continue to live in conditions of poverty and hardship, denied of certain basic opportunities, amenities and services.

Between 2003 and 2013, I represented the people of this constituency in the Parliament. In the period between 2003- 2008, I did so as a member of Her Majesty’s Opposition. Between 2008 and 2013, I represented the Constituency as a part of the NDC Government. Unfortunately, during that time in Government, I was able to achieve only some of the many initiatives and programs I had in mind for the constituency.

Even though I did not have the opportunity to serve as your Representative following the 2013 election, I remained committed to serving you and continued to work in the constituency assisting residents in addressing their needs and advocating for them.

Over the past 5 years I have, with the help of a group of volunteers, undertaken several initiatives aimed at assisting, in the best possible way, the most vulnerable in coping with these challenges. These included providing food hampers to poor families, organizing special luncheons for our elderly and women, assisting sporting groups with securing the uniforms for sporting competitions, supplying school bags, books and supplies to scores of students, organizing Christmas parties and toys for the children and making contributions to the special activities and events organized by the schools and community groups. In so doing, I sincerely hope that I did not disappoint you.

In the upcoming elections, I am offering myself as my party’s Candidate seeking your election and to become your Parliamentary Representative. On this occasion, I wish to renew my pledge to you to diligently serve you with honour and dignity should you grant me the honour to do so. I kindly request your continued support for my candidacy.

After many years of travelling throughout the length and breadth of St. George North East, and consulting with many of you, I have identified most, if not all of the critical needs of this Constituency. More importantly, I have carefully considered how and in what order of priority they may best be tackled.

To that end, I have identified the following Ten (10) strategic development priorities for the Constituency:
1. Enhancement of the Public infrastructure.
2. Modernization, resuscitation and improvement of Agriculture, including Poultry, livestock and Bee-keeping;
3. Development of more and better opportunities for agro-processing
4. Introduction of sustainable community tourism, including enhancement of existing tourist attraction sites.
5. Upgrading existing playing fields and sporting facilities- including lighting of playing fields and construction of appropriate seating accommodation and recreational facilities- and establishment of new ones within communities that are currently without.
6. Developing and implementing sustainable skills training programmes with the primary focus on youth.
7. Upgrading and proper staffing of existing Community Health Centres and establishment of such centres where they are required but do not now exist.
8. Assisting those families in need in securing decent and affordable housing with basic facilities of water, electricity and sanitation.
9. Upgrading Existing Community Centres to make them Community/ Resource Centres to serve the needs of the communities and ensuring that they are adequately equipped and staffed and well managed; and establishing such Centres in communities where they now don’t exist.
10. Facilitating the introduction of more and better facilities and programs for the development of sporting, cultural and entertainment talent.

In consultations with several constituents, I have put together a Constituency Development Manifesto setting out my vision for the constituency and outlining how the physical, economic and social development challenges facing the constituency can best be tackled and remedied. This document will soon be made available for the scrutiny and evaluation of residents and to invite further input and recommendations.

Should you choose to re-elect me as your Parliamentary Representative and the NDC forms the Government, I promise to do everything within my power within the Cabinet to secure the necessary resources to attend to the needs of the people of St. George North East. I promise that I shall not disappoint you.

On behalf of the NDC and on my personal behalf, I ask you kindly for your support.
May God richly bless you.

Party Leader and Candidate for St. George North East.
